“Most amazing day of my life!” – Loemma Kaylee and Caitlyn

It all started with a two-hour mass, that we didn’t fully understand. There were some differences between mass in Minnesota and mass here. These differences include loud, beautiful music that EVERYONE sings to. The communion is also quite different, instead of neat vertical lines down the aisle, everyone goes when they want and they stand in a horizontal line waiting their turn behind people. We stuck out by the way we held hands during the Our Father.  Some of the girls didn’t feel well during the long sermon and had to go outside, lucky them! After church we split up into three groups; each had two Uru students, who were very helpful in more than one way. They translated when we went shopping, and were also very protective over us. For example when a flycatcher came up to us, they would speak in Swahili and tell them to back off. Also when Allie tried crossing the street she would have gotten ran over IF Brighten (Uru student) hadn’t pulled her back to the sidewalk. After a long shopping spree we went to lunch. Ironically us girls all wanted Italian food and the boys went to a Café for burgers. The Uru students were so excited to go out to eat it was a rare treat for them. Precious (Uru student) ordered pizza but only ate one piece. She was saving the rest for her fellow Uru friends who had to stay at the school. We paid for their lunch and they wouldn’t stop saying thank you. Next, we loaded the bus to go on a coffee tour. We learned all about how coffee was made, some even participated in making it. While we were being shown how to make coffee, there were three smaller kids. Two girls and one boy, Caitlyn and Sophia connected with girls. Playing with them and carrying them up a hill, made the kids day – and our day too.. Caitlyn even shed a few tears when she had to leave them. We all thought the tour was over, but little did we know the tour included an hour hike to a traditional African house. Even though it wasn’t the most exciting day for us CHS students, the Uru students had a great time… even one saying it was the best day ever. Like Loemma said “Most amazing day of my life! And I wish you guys could stay here forever….” Even though we will see her tomorrow she still cried while leaving us.

P.S. Sleep over was again cancelled last minute because Whitney broke the bed!

  1. I'm afraid to ask but does the "puke count" mean a bunch of you are sick?
